MLB Dog of the Day 8/29: San Diego Padres

We don't have much time to get this one out, and it comes with a disclaimer.

THIS IS NOT A RECOMMENDED SUPERSTAR OR ALL-STAR BET! It is the Major League Baseball underdog that our algorithm thinks is the most likely to win after we ran the numbers and put the selection through our rigorous set of rules.

San Diego Padres -102 at St. Louis Cardinals 56% win probability

Sonny Gray vs. Michael King

Based on recent form alone this appears to be a great bet in favor of the Padres. Michael king, with one exception, has been outstanding in recent months, posting a 2.45 ERA in August. Meanwhile, Sonny Gray has had an up-and-down year and lacked his usual consistency. He has an ERA over 4.00 for the season and a 5.10 mark in August. The only thing that gives us pause and prevented this pick from getting over the 60% threshold is that his advanced stats for the entire season are slightly better than King's. That said, considering that San Diego leads MLB with a .275 average vs. righties compared the Cardinals' .253 average, we think this could be one of Gray's "down" days.

Again, this is not a recommended bet. It's the dog we feel has the best shot today. BET AT YOUR OWN RISK!
